I felt sorry for the penguin character in this book, as I thought it was lost and couldn't get home, but it wanted to find a friend not its home. I thought this was touching and would show young children the importance of friendship.

A range of emotions are explored throughout the story, such as: sad, lonely, disappointment and delight. These could be discussed with children, using moments in the book to help explain each emotion and make them easier to relate to and understand.

There are beautiful illustrations that would captivate young children and the language used is simple and easy to follow. The book provides opportunities to ask questions and engage children in discussion, such as: "But where was the penguin?"

Role-play opportunities:

Pretend to be at the lost and found office

Create dialogue for the penguin and the boy

Throughout the book the penguin is referred to as "it". It is lovely how the story ends with calling the penguin "his friend", showing how relationships can develop.
