Mog the cat is a fun character to explore with young children, as it allows them to use their imagination - children could create dialogue for the cat to show emotions and reactions to events in the story.

Possible activities could include story sequencing to develop vocabulary, use logical reasoning, understand how to structure stories and match narrative to illustrations. This could be extended into use of drama (recreating the book) and writing about specific events from the story (e.g. summary of what happens).

This book is also a good resource for exploring Christmas traditions - could read several Christmas books and discuss with children similarities and differences. This shows the range of traditions, gives awareness to children about people doing things differently and gets children to share what they do at home.

Another Christmas version of Mog the Cat was created called "Mog's Christmas Calamity". Sainsbury's used this book for their 2015 Christmas advert, so this could be used also.
