I enjoyed the humour of the large bear being afraid of the little boy and seeking comfort from his teddy. A class teddy could be a resource within lessons and used to comfort children, especially if they have lost their teddies! The teddy could go on school trips, be taken home by a child at the weekend as a reward and the children could create a diary for the teddy, which each child would add to when they take the teddy home.
The book is very easy to relate to for young children, as most will have experienced losing a teddy, special toy or comforter - discuss with children what they have lost and perhaps do some drama activities around this.
Also, the book has lovely rhythm with rhyming sounds that children will pick up on. Encourage children to participate with this when reading the book, as they will enjoy being part of the reading process. Using a big book version with small children would be great with young children to, as this will emphasise the size of the bear and his large teddy, which will enhance the reading experience.
