Get children to watch book trailer/provide small insight to the text, then children to write their own blurb for the book (before reading the book).

Example: The London Eye Mystery - by: Siobhan Dowd

Ted, Kat and their cousin from Manchester, Salim, take a trip to the famous London Eye. After a chance meeting with a stranger, who provides a free ticket, Salim rides the London Eye for the first time. Ted and Kat watch Salim's capsule go around, but when it returns Salim is nowhere to be seen... Will they ever find him and solve the London Eye mystery?

This activity provides brief knowledge on the plot with hooks to engage readers (e.g. use of rhetorical questions and ellipsis - builds tension).
