Poet: Christina Rossetti

Age: KS1

This is a really simple, easy to understand and short poem for young children who haven't had a lot of experience with poetry.

The simple structure of the poem could be used as a scaffold for writing poetry - e.g:

Mix a drink,

Stir a drink,

Pop it in the fridge;

Taste the drink,

Sip the drink -

Pour it if you can.

Clear link to Shrove Tuesday in the Christian calendar, so could be used when teaching Christian festivals in RE e.g. explain the meaning behind the day.

Poem could be used to link to design and technology (cooking), instructions (English) and algorithms (computing) - start with writing instructions to make pancakes, if possible cook some/eat some and use the instructions to make flow chart and explore algorithms.
