Poet: A. A. Milne

Age: KS1

This poem is simple to follow and understand for young children, but also it is from Winnie the Pooh, so the familiar character could be used to make poetry more engaging and accessible.

The main focus of the poem is the fact that it is snowing and Winnie the Pooh is cold, while he waits in a snowstorm for Piglet. A link to science could be made here to the topic of weather and seasonal changes - from this there is lots to explore using outdoor learning and art (e.g. using nature to create art work). If it snows outside take children outside to experience it, this could inspire some great writing.

Groups of children could perform this poem, with different children participating in different roles, because it has a repetitive rhyme of "Tiddely -pom" running through between each line of the poem. CHildren could also add some actions to the poem.
