This activity came from my volunteering experience in schools - the particular school used a slow writing approach, led through planning with questions to answer. Children were able to draw their ideas at the planning stage, to help them get their thoughts on a page. Once they start to write they have a structure to follow e.g. each sentence has a particular requirement - begin the sentence with an adverb - use a one word sentence - use speech etc.
